Carb Ratio Testing on Pump - TuDiabetes

tudiabetes.org — “I've started another round of carb ratio testing to really nail down the settings on my pump. My basal rate looks great and I'm now testing the amount of insulin I give myself for specific grams of carbohydrate. Does anybody have thoughts as to how many grams of food you should eat when testing carb ratios? I normally eat about 45 grams at each meal but have upped my food to 90 grams to test my carb ratio. I figured the more I challenge my insulin with food using the current ratios I have, the mView full resource at tudiabetes.org

I Did It Again - TuDiabetes

tudiabetes.org — “In all my years of being a type 1, I have gone up and down with my AICs usually keeping them around 7 but always have been the type that has wide swings in blood sugars because I enjoyed eating carbs and wouldn't give them up. Instead, I would use extra insulin when I ate them and later the blood sugars would come down. My doctors always told me I was doing okay but I never felt good because I was going up and down all the time. Still, I could not give up my impulses to eat sweet food, which I tView full resource at tudiabetes.org

Diabetes and Obesity: Unintended Consequences of USDA Farm Subsidies - TRCB

trcb.com — “The U.S. Department of Agriculture subsidizes the production of corn, so we have too much of it. This drives the price down and leads food processors to put corn-derived sweeteners in every conceivable food product. Sweet foods stimulate our appetite and lead us to eat more. This destroys our body's ability to use insulin to process all this sugar, so we end up diabetic. How can we stop this?View full resource at trcb.com

Is the A1c the most important thing? - TuDiabetes

tudiabetes.org — “So, I've managed to reduce my tests to at least 8 a day (well, that's still much^^)But it's a little success. I ask myself before each test: Will it really give me useful information right now? And I've realized that often my insulin still works so it's better to wait until it's gone before I test again.I try to keep that going and listen more to my body so I don't run into too many ups and downs (like my favourite struggle: Eating to much when I'm low, and giving an extra bolus afterwards againView full resource at tudiabetes.org

Insulin pill - TuDiabetes

tudiabetes.org — “Denmark-based Novo Nordisk A/S is doing human trials on an insulin pill for both T1 and T2. The pill uses GIPET, gastrointestinal permeation enhancement technology, to deliver insulin intact until it gets into the small intestine to be absorbed directly into the bloodstream. I'm interested to know how many of you would give up your shots to try this if the trials prove to be successful?View full resource at tudiabetes.org
