Bike riding and type 1 on a pump - TuDiabetes

tudiabetes.org — “Does anyone out there bike ride for exercise? Do you ever find your blood sugars high after you ride? I have recently gotten back into bike riding and after a ride even though I may start out with a normal blood sugar of say 95-110 I will spike up to over 200 when I get back and that is riding 4-6 miles. I stay high for 4-5 hours after exercise and then end up dropping low about 6-8 hours after exercise even though I eat a low fat meal when I get back with protein, it's frustrating to get the spView full resource at tudiabetes.org

tudiabetes.org — “This is from my #dblog at The Diabetic's Corner Booth. You may know them as Insulin Reactions, Hypos, Lows, or by some variation of those terms. In my world as a Type 1 diabetic since the age of 5, they've historically been Reactions that have transition into the more generic Lows in more recent years. The opposite of Highs, which garner quite the confused and befuddled glares when you say out in public that I'm High and follow that with the need to shoot up. Exercise and MDI - TuDiabetes

tudiabetes.org — “So I'm getting a bit frustrated trying to mix exercise with insulin injections. Here's the deal: - I like to work out first thing in the morning - I wake up in the 7s and 8s (126- 144) although I'd like to be lower - I'm hungry right when I get up - When I exercise, my bgs drop as much as 5 mmols depending on what I do. So if I have breakfast before I work out and don't take insulin, my blood sugar is high enough to prevent a low, but then I'm just burning off what I ate, so what's the point? My blood sugars are high and I'm having a panic attack - TuDiabetes

tudiabetes.org — “So my blood sugars were 204 an hour and a half after lunch, so I gave myself 30 units in the muscle and figured that would take me down pretty low (but at least I wouldn't be high). I might have given myself more, but I'd run out of insulin, and I'm at work, which is a long way from home. Anyway, my blood sugars just keep going up. I'm now 241 and they're staying steady. I just keep testing every 2 minutes, and I'm 224, then 234, then 238, then 240, then 241. Anyway, I'm having a panic attack anView full resource at tudiabetes.org

tudiabetes.org — “Hello! I just got my flu (regular and H1N1) and Pneumococcal shots on Wednesday (i know it seems kinda late, but I was only just diagnosed T1 in January and before that wasn't considered high risk) I am wondering if anyone has had a similar experience after getting the shots:The night after getting all three, I had frequent lows (50-60s), along with fever (chills and then waking up covered in sweat) It was a terrible night :) Yesterday I had all over body aches, headache, and just felt sick. Blood testing meters visual check function - TuDiabetes

tudiabetes.org — “Some of the old meters you were able to get an idea of if your blood sugar was low, medium, or high via the test strips. This was really helpful if the meter stopped working.   I don’t know of any meter that you can do this with, not to mention any names, such as Roche, but pharmaceutical /equipment companies say that their products are so reliable that you do not need this function any longer...  I know as I have brought this topic of conversation up more than once. The number of times I haView full resource at tudiabetes.org

Overnight Lows? - TuDiabetes

tudiabetes.org — “Isometimes wake up and notice sweat dried on my bodyand had been wondering if I was experiencing lows during sleep. But the only time I have sweated when low was an extreme rapid drop to 38. I took my blood sugar a couple timeswhen I woke up during the nightand it was fine,so I figured my down comforter was just too warm for the climate here. Then last night I stayed up reading later than usual. Around 2AM when I was ready to go to sleep I took my blood sugar and it was 60. I was nervous to go tView full resource at tudiabetes.org
