The DNA loop structure is essential for regulating the activity of cell-type-specific genes and thus maintaining cell state. Problems with the loop structure can cause multiple syndromes and diseases, including Opitz-Kaveggia syndrome, Lujan syndrome, schizophrenia and Cornelia de Lange syndrome.
