School hosts talk on lead contamination - Times Union

''A growing number of epidemiological studies show that blood levels between 5 and 10 micrograms in young children are associated with learning disabilities, behavior problems, and lowered intelligence,'' the letter states. Approximately 250,000 American children ages 1-5 have blood lead levels greater than 10 micrograms, according to the CDC. Because lead poisoning often occurs with no obvious symptoms, it frequently goes unrecognized, the center said.
