According to the National Institute of Mental Health, obsessive-compulsive disorder is an anxiety disorder characterized by recurrent, unwanted thoughts and repetitive behaviors. Commonly known as OCD, it is a debilitating illness that affects more than 2 million Americans. Sufferers are mainly treated through cognitive behavioral therapy that comprises talk therapy plus exposure and response prevention.
