Researcher Establishes Breakthrough Method to Help Identify Mechanisms of Disease

newswise.com — “Sanford Health Children’s Research Center researcher, Kyle Roux, PhD, has revealed a new method of research that will allow the cause of disease—particularly rare diseases—to become more easily identified. Called BioID, this method identifies the proximity and interactions between proteins in living cells providing insight into the underlying mechanisms of disease. Ultimately, this method could lead to the development of more targeted therapeutic or novel treatments for patients.View full resource at newswise.com

Stem cells hint at potential treatment for Huntingtons disease | R&D Mag

rdmag.com — “Huntington' s disease, the debilitating congenital neurological disorder that progressively robs patients of muscle coordination and cognitive ability, is a condition without effective treatment, a slow death sentence. But if researchers can build on new research, a special type of brain cell forged from stem cells could help restore the muscle coordination deficits that cause the uncontrollable spasms characteristic of the disease.View full resource at rdmag.com

New Insights Into Autism Revealed By Research On Rare Bone Disorder - QualityPoint Technologies

qualitypointtech.net — “Children with multiple hereditary exostoses (MHE), an inherited genetic disease, suffer from multiple growths on their bones that cause pain and disfigurement. But beyond the physical symptoms of this condition, some parents have long observed that their children with MHE also experience autism-like social problems. Buoyed by the support of these parents, researchers at Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute (Sanford-Burnham) used a mouse model of MHE to investigate cognitive function...View full resource at qualitypointtech.net
