President Joseph Pelaccia said last month that community hospitals needed to keep all of the $8,000 allotment for the care of each Medicaid patient to help the bottom line. The state continues to keep 40 percent of the federal funds paid on behalf of each Medicaid patient. Businesses with more than 100 employees are required by federal law to give 60 days notice of a layoff that involves closing a unit with more than 50 workers or reducing staff by more than one-third.
