Methimazole / Tapazole - Antithyroid Drugs Used to Treat Graves’ Disease and Hyperthyroidism
Information on the drug methimazole, an antithyroid drug used to treat an overactive thyroid, Graves’ disease and hyperthyroidism, and known by the brand name Tapazole in the United States. Methimazole is the preferred antithyroid drug in the US, compared to the other drug, propylthiouracil / PTU, and is considered generally safer than PTU except in the first trimester of pregnancy.
