The FDA has received more than 900 reports of adverse events with inferior vena cava filters, leading the agency to remind clinicians that the devices should be removed as soon as it is safely possible. In addition, one center found a high prevalence of device fragmentation and fracture, leading to serious clinical events, with Bard IVC filters.
