GERD Information - Vitals.com

GERD , or gastroesophageal reflux disease, is caused
when there is a breakdown in the barrier between the esophagus and
stomach. This is compounded by an abnormally relaxed sphincter (or
valve) in the lower esophagus enabling gastric acid to splash up from
the stomach (acid reflux) or abnormal acid expulsion from the esophagus
itself, along with hiatal hernias. Vitals.com provides a great patient info guide on GERD.
