Research identifies gene for major cause of cornea problem - latimes.com
latimes.com — “Researchers have a identified a faulty gene that is the major cause of Fuchs' corneal dystrophy, which affects an estimated 5% of Americans over the age of 40. The condition can ultimately cause blindness by blocking the transmission of light through the cornea. It is responsible for about a quarter of the 42,000 cornea transplants in the United States each year. People with one copy of the mutant gene are 5.5 times as likely to develop Fuchs', while those with two copies are 30 times as likely.” View full resource at latimes.com
