- Dylan Lopich completed his bachelor’s degree in Psychology and English part-time through the University of South Africa. He then went on to do his Honours in Psychology and Masters in Clinical Psychology at the University of Cape Town in 2008.
Dylan integrates a number of theoretical approaches into his work. His main school of thought is psychodynamic theory. Psychodynamic therapy, in practical terms, seeks to facilitate the exploration and understanding of the full range of emotions within the safety of a supportive and attentive relationship. Through this process, the development of emotional insight and awareness holds the potential for deep change. Another characteristic of psychodynamic therapy is exploring the significance of past experiences and the ways in which they impact on current relationships. Discovering links between one’s past experiences and present difficulties can act as a catalyst for shifting negative repetitive patterns in relationships. In this way, the emphasis on thinking about past experiences is not done for its own sake or as a way of dwelling in the past, but as a useful way of overcoming present difficulties.
