Bicarbonate and CIN debated

A series of letters question some of the protocols employed in a recent randomized trial that found that using sodium bicarbonate does not prevent contrast-induced nephropathy in patients with moderate to severe renal dysfunction undergoing coronary angiography. (Burgess W et al. Shy BD et al. Kanbay M et al. Bouzas-Mosquera A et al. JAMA 2009; 301:377-380.)
