- Gonzalo Bacigalupe, EdD, MPH, is a professor of the Master of Science in Family Therapy Program and the PhD in Counseling Psychology, College of Education & Human Development at the University of Massachusetts Boston. He's also Ikerbasque Research Professor at the Psychology & Education College, University of Deusto. Bacigalupe is leading the Undergraduate Minority Health Disparities Fellows Initiative as a member of the UMass Center for Health Equity Intervention Research (CHEIR), an NIMHHD P-60 5 year grant for a joint effort by the UMASS Medical School and UMASS Boston. He is President-Elect (2012-2013) of the American Family Therapy Academy.
Bacigalupe’s research with colleagues in Spain, Mexico, and the USA, focuses on the impact of emerging media on families, transnational/immigrant families, family health, and e-health. His most recent efforts include developing a transnational collaboration to investigate the adoption of emerging technology by families. In conjunction with the Basque Institute for Healthcare Innovation (o+Berri) and Innobasque, he is assessing the role of healthcare virtual communities of practice and the role of social networks in supporting patients with chronic illness.
Dr. Bacigalupe is Associate Editor of Family Systems & Health and on the editorial board of Family Process, Journal of Marital & Family Therapy, Couple & Family Psychology: Research & Practice, Journal of Latina/o Psychology, Qualitative Research in Psychology, AFTA Monograph Series, and BioMed Central Public Health. He is a reviewer for the Council for International Exchange of Scholars, the Spanish Minister of Education and Science, the Catalunya Government Research Agency, and others. Bacigalupe is elected Councilor of the American Public Health Association International Section, Vice-President for Public Interest & Diversity of the Society for Family Psychology (Division 43 of the American Psychological Association), and Member at Large in the Executive Committee of the Society for Participatory Medicine.
