How to Help a Child with ADHD
Written by Cara Stevens and Medically Reviewed by Scott Pearlman, M.D.
1. Create a calm home
You can’t control most environments outside your home – a noisy classroom, a crowded shopping mall, an energy-filled birthday party – but you can control your child’s home base. Walking into a calm, clutter-free room with soft lighting, pleasing scents, peaceful music or anything else your child responds positively at the end of a long, stimulating day can help reset your child’s energy level. Designate one area of your house as a calm room and encourage quiet activities such as reading or coloring in that space.
