Sara L. Stein, M.D., is a Bariatric psychiatrist, Functional Medicine doctor, author, speaker, and teacher. In 2009, she wrote the award-winning Obese From The Heart: A Fat Psychiatrist Discloses chronicling her now 100 lb. weight loss, and the method she uses in treating obesity. Her witnessing reflects the soul within both patient and doctor. These are not the stories of individuals, but the collective wisdom of working with thousands of people of all ages and all walks-of-life who struggle with their lives. Some struggle with addictions, some with circumstances, some with biology, but all with a need for greater healing than our current overtaxed medical system can offer. For her groundbreaking work on obesity, Dr. Stein received the 2010 Kaiser Permanente Ohio Humanitarian Award for Community Service. In 2011, Dr. Stein received the Crain’s Cleveland Physician Hero Award.
