Polio immunization (vaccine) - Overview, Polio immunization protects against poliomyelitis, a severe disease that leads to the loss of movement.The vaccine contains an inactive (dead) form of the polio virus. It is called an inactivated polio vaccine, or IPV. It cannot cause polio.
