Papular Acrodermatitis

Research Notes on Papular Acrodermatitis

Papular Acrodermatitis, also known as Gianotti-Crosti Syndrome, is usually a benign condition. It is most common in children three months to fifteen years old but has been seen in adult women. It manifests with red elevated lesions which mostly occur on the limbs, face, neck and buttocks. At first it was associated only with the Hepatitis B virus, but later was found to be associated with other bacterial and viral infections as well, most commonly the Epstein-Barr Virus. Since the onset of this condition is associated with others, they are also included in this WisdomCard.

Fast Facts:

  • Usually goes away on its own
  • Treatment is for the underlying cause rather than the rash itself
  • Symptoms may include swollen lymph nodes
  • Some experts suspect it may be related to childhood immunizations
