Dr. Golden received his BA from the University of Chicago in 1977 and received the first-ever pre-doctoral Master’s Degree in Ophthalmology awarded by that institution. His doctorate degree was awarded at Saint Louis University in 1984. He continued his training in St. Louis with internship and residency.
In 1988 he joined Eye Surgeons and Consultants specializing in small incision cataract surgery and treatment of diabetic retinopathy. In 1991 he became interested in refractive surgery and took the first course on the then new ALK machine followed by a fellowship in Houston. This technique was the precursor of Lasik. He has taught and proctored ophthalmologists in the technique of Lasik, nationally and internationally. He has lectured at Ophthalmology and Optometry meeting such as the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, International Society of Refractive Surgery, American Academy of Optometry, American Optometric Association, State of Washington Optometric Association, and the State of Wisconsin Optometric Association.
Honors include board certification in Ophthalmology, Fellowship of the American College of Surgeons, The International College of Surgeons, and the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Dr. Golden also holds the role as director of the Division of Ophthalmology for the International College of Surgeons and is a Vice President of that organization. He has been the medical and surgical director of several laser centers.
He is experienced in the placement of Intacs (Intracorneal ring) for the correction of low amounts of nearsightedness. He has performed more than twenty thousand refractive procedures. He is frequently asked by eye doctors to perform their eye laser procedures. He is presently the head of his own practice, Doctors For Visual Freedom located in suburban Chicago as well as a surgeon at the 20/20 Institute in Indianapolis.
