If you were capable of becoming pregnant before taking oral contraceptives, when you stop taking birth control pills you can expect your fertility to return right away, so if you don't want to become pregnant, you need to start another method immediately!  Pills cause women to have much more regular periods than they would normally have.  After stopping pills, you may begin to have a less regular pattern of bleeding.  However, less than 1% of women will go more than 6 months without any bleeding at all.  Menstrual cramps and pain may also increase.  Generally, you will return to the menstrual pattern that you had before beginning pills.
