Anyones insurance NOT cover pens? - TuDiabetes

tudiabetes.org — “Not that relevant to me b/c I pump, but I was just looking at my prescription benefit info (for the fun of it, yes, i'm a health policy wonk) and I noticed that they don't cover Lantus Solostar, only lantus vials as a tier 2, all other pens as tier 3, other than novolog, which is tier 2 as a pen and tier 1 for a vial. I'm just curious...is this a new trend in health insurance to screw the diabetics, or is it just my crappy student insurance that does this?View full resource at tudiabetes.org

Diabetes DIY - TuDiabetes

tudiabetes.org — “from my blog Don't Fear Diabetes So I have to go out of town tomorrow for an indefinite amount of time, and I realized today that my last Lantus SoloStar pen is almost empty, and then I switch to a vial. But because I use so little, I was only given one vial. Great for home, but it fails the redundancy test which is required for travel with insulin. I tried to think of what my options were. I asked the Twitterverse, to no avail (why??). So I had to take matters into my own hands. My first attempView full resource at tudiabetes.org

Why so low? - TuDiabetes

tudiabetes.org — “Today I took my Lantus and Humalog as usual. Ate the same amount of food I always do. 3 hours later I came close to passing out. I was in my classroom so was trying to hide my symptoms. I started eating a giant apple, followed by cramming gummi bears in my mouth. When I could function again (15-20 min later) I tested and Bg was 73. But I know it was much lower. Only thing I noticed was my pens were low and was wondering if the Insulin could have been more concentrated. Is that possible?View full resource at tudiabetes.org
