Resource Description:

What is it like? Here's a typical story: Over a period of a few months when Anna was 15, her family and teachers noticed that sometimes she would be inattentive and "stare into space" for several seconds. Then one day Anna had a tonic-clonic seizure at school while she was taking a math exam, and juvenile absence epilepsy was diagnosed. Once Anna was treated with Depakote (valproate), the staring spells and inattentiveness seemed to disappear.
