Infant Sleep Apnea

Research Notes on Infant Sleep Apnea

Sleep apnea is when breathing stops during sleep. There are many causes of infant sleep apnea such as gastroesophageal reflux disease, infection, hypoglycemia, intracranial hemorrhage, immature brain control of breathing and history of seizures. An apnea monitor, and possibly supplemental oxygen, may need to be used.1

Fast Facts:

  • Discuss with your doctor as to which sleeping position is best for your infant.1
  • Premature babies are at a higher risk of having this condition.1
  • Parents and caregivers of high risk infants should be trained to perform infant CPR.1
