Due to the effects of HIV on the immune system, the chances of a woman developing cervical cancer are increased.1 Screening and early treatment are important for HIV-positive women. HPV is more likely to be present in HIV-positive women which aids in the development of pre-cancerous and cancerous cell changes.1

Fast Facts:

  • HIV-positive teenage girls have a greater risk of developing cervical cancer in the future.2
  • 81% of HIV-positive women have annual pap smears which are necessary to diagnose cervical cancer.2
  • 94% of potential cancerous cell changes are detected early.2
