Since 1999, Dr. Garcia-Manero has participated in the training of many young physicians in the Department of Leukemia. In particular, he has been the Program Director for the Advances in Hematological Malignancies course (2002-2003) and for the Advanced Course on Leukemia (2004-2006). He also has been a lecturer for three courses on myelodysplastic syndrome or translational science.
In addition, Dr. Garcia-Manero has been a lecturer at the GSBS, focusing on basic and translational research related to leukemia. Furthermore, from 1999 to 2002, Dr. Garcia-Manero was the instructor for Introduction to Hematological Malignancies, a bimonthly Internal Medicine course for third-year medical students at The University of Texas Medical School at Houston.
Dr. Garcia-Manero received his M.D. degree from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Zaragosa in Zaragosa, Spain, in 1991. He completed a Clinical Internship and Residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia in 1996 and a Clinical Fellowship, also at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, in 1999. During his fellowship, he was named Chief Fellow in the Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology (1998-1999).
