- Dr. Benchimol received a Bachelor’s of Science in genetics from York University and his medical degree from the University of Western Ontario. He completed clinical and research fellowships in pediatric gastroenterology and inflammatory bowel diseases at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. At the same time, he completed a PhD in clinical epidemiology at the University of Toronto. His thesis project used Ontario’s health administrative data at the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences (ICES) to create the largest cohort of pediatric inflammatory bowel disease patients in the world. Dr. Benchimol joined CHEO in 2010 as a clinician scientist in the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition.
