Pamela F. Gallin, M.D., F.A.C.S. is one of the nations top pediatric surgeons. Since 2001, she has been listed in "Best Doctors In America." She is the Director and Associate Professor of Pediatric Ophthalmology at the Edward S. Harkness Eye Institute. She also serves as Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Children’s Hospital of New York. Dr. Gallin has written several books, notably "The Savvy Mom's Guide to Medical Care" and "How to Survive Your Doctor's Care." She has first hand knowledge on this topic; she needed surgery on her right hand, which she uses predominantly for surgery. All went well until she realized that her cast was placed too tightly. Rather than insisting it be checked, she waited and ended up with complications requiring two additional surgeries. In her book she gives practical advice on how the average person can get good care.
