Dr. Geno Merli, M.D. is a nationally recognized expert in the prevention and treatment of deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism, as well as in medical consultation with surgical patients. He is the director of Jefferson Center for Vascular Disease at Jefferson Medical College and senior vice president and chief medical officer at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.1 Dr. Merli is a member of the DVT Coalition which consists of 37 national organizations. He successfully worked with U.S. Senators Arlen Specter and Byron Dorgan and State Senators Bob Mellow and Joe Kryrillos to have the month of March designated as “DVT Awareness Month."2 Fast Facts:

  • Dr.Merli received a doctor of medicine degree from Jefferson Medical College in 1975.3
  • He is the recipient of the Lindback Award for Distinguished Teaching in 1987 and the Dean’s Citation for significant contribution to the advancement of education in 2004.2
  • He was co-editor of Medical Management of the Surgical Patient, third edition.2
  • Dr. Merli is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and a member of the American Medical Association, American Venous Forum, International Society of Thrombosis and Homeostasis, Society of General Internal Medicine and Society of Hospital Medicine.2
