The Government Accountability Office has revealed that approximately 6.5 million children on Medicaid from the ages of 2 to 18, are not getting the dental care necessary and have untreated tooth decay. In a survey completed in 1999 and then again in 2004, 14.8% of Medicaid recipients stated their children did not get the necessary care due to local dentists not accepting Medicaid.
