Worldwide, breast cancer is the fifth most common cause of cancer death. Because the breast is composed of identical tissues in males and females, breast cancer also occurs in males, though it is less common.

- The first symptom of breast cancer is typically a lump that feels different from the surrounding breast tissue.
- It is generally recommended that women perform a breast self-exam each month, as well as having an annual clinical exam.
- Women with a family history of breast cancer now have the option of having a BRCA Test that checks for variations in the genetic structure that can predispose them to breast cancer.
