For centuries, herbalists have used borage for emotional and medicinal purposes. The herb has long been known for its ability to bring courage and ward off depression.1 Small clinical trials support the use of borage to reduce inflammation and pain that comes with arthritis, and laboratory studies support its use to treat coughs and as an expectorant.2 Other reported uses include the treatment of PMS, fever, hypertension, eczema, chickenpox, IBS, sore throat, menopause and measles.1
