Adhesions

A brief digest about this topic

Adhesions are bands of fibrous tissue. They can connect the loops of the intestines to each other, to nearby organs or to the wall of the abdomen. They can pull sections of the intestines out of place. This may block food from passing through the intestine.

Sometimes adhesions are present at birth. But most of them form after surgery on the abdomen. Some adhesions don't cause any problems. But when they partly or completely block the intestines, they cause symptoms. These can include crampy abdominal pain, vomiting, bloating, an inability to pass gas and constipation.

Some adhesions go away by themselves. If they partly block your intestines, a diet low in fiber can allow food to move easily through the affected area. In some cases, surgery may be necessary to remove the adhesions. But surgery to correct adhesions can increase the risk of more adhesions.

adhesives - TuDiabetes

tudiabetes.org — “I am having trouble with my infusion sets sticking and staying on my body. I'm on my third site change today and it's falling off. I am allergic to the plastic tape to tape down the tube and I've tried without success the tegaderms (sp?). I am of Greek and Italian decent so my skin isn't exactly normal/dry, it tends to be a touch oily, and I think that's my problem. Anyone know of an industrial strength adhesive??? I swear I need one!!!!!View full resource at tudiabetes.org

adhesives to stick between the pod and the adhesive patch - TuDiabetes

tudiabetes.org — “Anyone know an adhesive to stick between the pod and the adhesive patch on the pod? I don't really understand why there are only 2 little points of connection between the adhesion to my skin and the pod. By the 3rd day the pod is pulling away from my arm and I am worried the canula will come out. It was recommended to put bandaids on the pod to hold it to me more- but it looks awful! And it increases the adhesive area on my arm.View full resource at tudiabetes.org

Reaction to adhesive - TuDiabetes

tudiabetes.org — “Hi, My daughter has been on the Omnipod since November and we absolutely love everything about it. Lately though, she has been itching and the skin under her pod is red all over. She has also had a little raised bump at the insertion site a couple of times. I am guessing that either it is just this batch of pods or maybe her skin is developing an intolerance to the adhesive. I see that there are a few skin barriers out there and wondered if anyone has had this issue and cleared it up using a skiView full resource at tudiabetes.org
