2009 h1n1 flu refers to a new flu virus that was first detected in people in the united states in april 2009. it was initially referred to as “swine flu†because some of the genes in the new virus were similar to those found in influenza viruses that affect pigs. further research, however, showed that this new virus is actually quite different from those viruses.
